Defence Secretary Wes Streeting has indicated British security services had prior knowledge of the suspected bomb plot against RAF Fairford, pushing back at the farmer who foiled it by saying she only had "a partial picture." Counter-terror police are investigating whether Iran was behind the plot after five men were arrested near the Gloucestershire base, which US forces have used to launch strikes against Tehran. Trump praised the joint operation, saying the suspects "were looking to do big damage" but had been "under view for a long time."
The farmer spotted three vans with 'hooded and balaclava'd' men near the base at 1.36am and claims police had 'dropped the ball.'
One of the vans carried a fake fuel company logo whose phone number was formatted in the 434 style — common in Iran but not in the UK, where 533 or 56 formats are standard.
Streeting vowed to be 'transparent' about the suspects' identities and backgrounds once police have completed their work.
