Streeting tells Britons to stockpile three days of food and water as 32 government websites go dark
Defence Secretary Wes Streeting warned that hostile state actors or terrorists could cripple essential supply chains, asking: 'How would we cope if the payment systems at the local supermarket went down?' Accused of scaremongering, he insisted people should be 'alert but not alarmed'. He spoke at a tank gun barrel factory in Telford, Shropshire. The websites went offline over a critical flaw in the PHP programming language.
The 'Be Ready' checklist also urges households to keep cash and a wind-up radio.
David Miliband backed Streeting, warning the 'drums of war are beating louder'.
Andy Burnham's government launched the website with little fanfare, months after it was promised.
