Defence Secretary Wes Streeting confirmed Ukraine's Starlink satellite service has been restored after he met US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon on Thursday, his first Washington visit since taking the role. Streeting quoted St Francis of Assisi to Hegseth as he pressed the US to stay committed to Kyiv, warning that abandoning Ukraine would undermine American security for decades.
The White House reportedly ordered the slowdown, with US officials reportedly telling Hegseth's department to reduce the service for Ukrainian forces.
Ukraine said the restrictions, which hampered attack and air-defence drone missions, were 'politically motivated' — and Zelensky had told London the previous day that Trump 'betrayed' his country.
Streeting admitted he could not explain why the interruption happened, saying: 'We didn't really get into why the service interruption had happened.'
