Bethany Antonia, the 28-year-old House of the Dragon actress competing on Strictly Come Dancing, has publicly defended the BBC after it digitally removed a 'Protect the Dolls' pro-trans slogan from her rehearsal T-shirt before the footage aired live. The BBC confirmed it received exactly 206 formal complaints over the edit, with furious viewers branding the move 'despicable' and 'shameful'.

Antonia said the BBC 'had to do what they had to do to keep it fair for everybody', adding her trans family 'knew what I was thinking'.

The BBC insisted its editing policy applies to all slogans regardless of content, saying it is 'standard practice on any entertainment show'.
