Student gunman wounds eight at Turkish high school in Manisa before being caught by police

From the Newshound archive · first published 22 September 2026.

A student opened fire outside the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Turgutlu, Manisa, wounding at least eight people, two of them critically. Footage circulating online showed the young gunman walking near the school carrying a rifle, initially moving away before turning back and running towards the building. Police apprehended the suspect shortly after the attack and a judicial investigation has been launched. The motive is not yet known.

The attack came just months after Turkey was shaken by two fatal school shootings in April, which led the country to introduce tighter gun controls and new security measures ahead of the current academic year.
