Zack Coughlan, 23, will serve at least 28 years for murdering fellow student Jamie Collins, stabbing him around 30 times after lying in wait, masked and dressed in black, for more than 20 minutes in a Filton alleyway. He went home, ate pizza and played online video games while Jamie's body lay at the bottom of his garden, waiting more than eight hours before calling police and pretending he had merely found him.

Coughlan bought the clothes he wore for the murder a fortnight beforehand, the jury heard.

'Amateurish' and 'haphazard': how his defence described dumping evidence in a pond, citing his clean record.

Jamie, two coursework pieces from finishing his robotics degree, was posthumously awarded a 2:1.
