Suffolk village Barnham will hold a vote on LEAVING the UK over a plan to house around 930 migrants nearby

At Saturday's packed meeting in Barnham village hall, just seven of the 80 residents present voted against holding a referendum. Parish council chairman John Bauer said the outcome reflects the depth of anger at the government's 'failure to consult anyone'. According to the Home Office, most residents at RAF Barnham would be single young men who had entered the country illegally. A working group meets on Monday to set a date.

Piddington in Oxfordshire voted 90 per cent for 'independence' over the MoD Bicester plans in September.

Some villagers claim Labour figures on West Suffolk Council pressed them to drop the vote.

Bauer branded the government's approach 'high-handed', after it cut the planned numbers from 1,250 on Friday.
