Summer camp leader who drugged boys with laced sweets before abusing them loses Court of Appeal bid to cut sentence

Jon Ruben, 77, a former vet, appeared by video link from HMP Wakefield and argued his sentence was excessive and did not reflect his 'remorse'. Three judges rejected both claims on Friday. They restructured the sentence but left the 23 years and 10 months of custody unchanged. His total term, including extended licence, remains 31 years and 10 months.

Ruben laced sweets with drugs purchased online, including Xanax, referring to the practice as 'the sweet game'.

His wife, Susan, who was also sedated by him, described him as a 'sadistic, monstrous paedophile'.

Leicestershire Police say further victims may exist from the decades during which he ran the camp.
