Super El Niño has already pushed Pacific sea levels 15 inches above normal as scientists warn of tenfold flood risk
Oxford ocean scientist Thomas Monahan warns the coast from Mexico to Ecuador could face 'four to five decades of projected sea-level rise – in a single season'. NASA's Sentinel-6 satellite has tracked the swelling ocean, driven by expanding warm water. The Galápagos Islands face rises of nine to 16in. Worse, the biggest tides are forecast for Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks.
Sea levels are expected to peak around November or December.
Peru and Ecuador could see the sea climb up to 13in above normal.
Monahan says California has already flooded in the aftermath of tropical storm Rachel.
