An Ipsos Mori poll found 56 per cent of Britons would now vote to rejoin the EU, up four points since May, with opposition falling three points to 30 per cent. Among likely voters in a future referendum, the split widens to 63-34 in favour of rejoining.

Former Tory minister Nick Boles said the poll shows Burnham 'speaks for a majority' when he calls Brexit bad for Britain.

Chancellor John Healey has publicly undermined Burnham's push, quipping he does not expect to see the UK rejoin the EU 'in his lifetime'.
