Suspect could be freed in December — around the anniversary of Henry Nowak's murder — under Labour's early release scheme

Kiran Kaur, 53, whose son killed Henry Nowak, is set for release after serving only one-third of her three-year sentence, with the Home Office also indicating she may face deportation as an Indian national. Donna Jones, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, described the prospect as "quite shocking" and is writing to Justice Secretary Alex Norris to demand clarification. Kaur was jailed in July for disposing of the eight-inch ceremonial dagger her son Vickrum Digwa had used to stab 18-year-old finance student Henry Nowak to death in Southampton in December 2025.
Jones warned the early release would be 'a significant blow for Henry's family', raising 'very serious questions about the robustness of our criminal justice system'.
Digwa, who falsely claimed Nowak had racially abused him before the killing, is serving life with a minimum 21-year term.
Kaur is also appealing her sentence, with a Court of Appeal hearing due on 5 November.
