An Ebola isolation tent in Nigeria, as the Swiss diplomat's wife — Nigeria's first case in the outbreak — was flown home to Switzerland with 52 contacts still under watch.

Nigerian Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate described the 42-year-old as stable, conscious and able to communicate, though he cautioned that 'this does not mean she is not still infectious'. She departed Abuja early Monday alongside her husband, who remains symptom-free. Swiss authorities believe she contracted the virus in Uganda and confirmed she had no contact with Congo. WHO Africa chief Mohamed Janabi declared Nigeria clear of Ebola cases.

Uganda, which was declared Ebola-free in August, strengthened its border controls on Sunday.

The first patients identified in Nigeria and Kenya had both travelled through Entebbe International Airport.

Three previous patients from this outbreak were transferred by air to Germany and the Netherlands.
