Uganda had claimed the 42-year-old Ugandan-born patient travelled to eastern DR Congo. Swiss officials now say she contracted the virus in Uganda, which has been declared Ebola-free since August. A Ugandan government spokesperson insists the country has no cases. Africa CDC is investigating whether she crossed paths at Entebbe airport with an Ebola patient who later reached Kenya.

She spent about a week in a private Abuja clinic before testing positive on 20 October.

Her husband is in isolation, but all 25 Swiss embassy staff were told not to isolate.

The Bundibugyo strain is fatal in roughly half of cases and has no vaccine.
