Synagogue guard who was stabbed three times by Heaton Park terrorist is honoured for 'outstanding bravery' at Pride of Britain

Andrew Franks, 53, tripped Jihad al-Shamie as he ran at the Manchester synagogue on Yom Kippur last year, then shouted 'Lock the doors!' to the congregation. Worshippers barricaded themselves in while the knifeman smashed pots against the doors. Franks's 80-year-old father pressed on his wounds until help came. Surgeons had to resuscitate him several times.

Al-Shamie was shot dead by armed police after Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby were killed.

Franks recalls telling his father: 'Dad, I'm going to die.'

He begged his surgeon: 'Please save me, I have a daughter.'
