'Syrian' man is charged with murder of man, 52, whose body was found in a Plymouth wheelie bin

Mohamed Abotaka, 36, lives on Grand Parade in West Hoe, the same street where Ali Barzai was found. Barzai was partially inside a wheelie bin in a service lane off the road at around 6.40am on Wednesday, with stab wounds. Police believe the pair knew each other. Abotaka remains in custody and is due before Plymouth Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Barzai is believed to be of North African heritage, and police are still trying to trace his next of kin.

Detective Inspector Chris Lithgow urged people not to speculate on the case, 'especially on social media'.

A heightened police presence will remain around the Plymouth Hoe seafront in the coming days.
