Teacher tackled Oregon school shooter to the floor before armed dad Kaylub Giamanco crawled through window and killed him

Sixteen-year-old gunman Griffin J John II was struck first by a mobile phone thrown by a teacher, who then brought him to the ground and fought to pull his shotgun free — even as three children and a colleague lay dead inside Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. Kaylub Giamanco, 36, a carpenter with two daughters at the school, spotted the shooter in the car park during his lunch break, drove his vehicle onto the grass, retrieved his licensed .40-calibre pistol, and crawled through a window the gunman had blown out with his shotgun. He found the teacher still wrestling John on the classroom floor and shot the teenager multiple times.

John had fired around 15 shotgun rounds into a special-needs class, was carrying 44 further rounds, and had used a gun his mother bought near his August birthday.

Victims include five-year-old Rhoam Summer, teacher Meghan Lambert, 25, and a seven-year-old wheelchair user, Saylor Graham, who was shot in the face.

Trump called Giamanco 'a great hero', saying the attack could have been 'much worse' without 'a man who had a gun and knew how to use it.'
