Teachers would rather take more HOLIDAYS than a four-day week while Lucy Powell moves to relax the 195-day rule

Education Secretary Lucy Powell has asked the School Teachers' Review Body, chaired by Mike Aldred, to loosen the rule tying staff to 195 working days a year. Teachers in council-run schools could squeeze their 1,265 contracted hours into four longer days. Colleagues would be timetabled to cover the fifth day. The push follows warnings that rigid conditions are driving teachers out.
The cap on teachers' pay could also be raised by ministers to retain experienced staff.
One angry parent hit back online: 'Don't they have enough time off.'
Many teachers reportedly don't want a four-day week but would welcome extra holidays.
