Teen died two days after her 19th birthday after her 10lb tumour was dismissed as 'hormonal problems'

Liberty York's angiosarcoma — an aggressive soft-tissue cancer — went undetected for months after doctors repeatedly attributed her swelling to mastitis, an abscess, and hormonal issues, telling her cancer was "highly unlikely." By the time the 10lb tumour in her chest was finally diagnosed, it had already spread to her lymph nodes, and there were no available beds at a specialist hospital to begin treatment. Her mother Hannah York, 41, a store assistant from Stratford-upon-Avon, has now spoken out as a new campaign launches to stop young cancer patients slipping through the net.

Hannah says she carries guilt for "not pushing more" and that Liberty was never given a "fighting chance."

Doctors on a teenage cancer ward told Liberty's family that hormone-related symptoms were something "they see every day."

Liberty's rare angiosarcoma was described as "underfunded and under-researched," leaving her family with little hope throughout her treatment.
