A boy travelling as a passenger in a Nissan Juke was killed on the A37 Wells Road in south Bristol shortly after 4am on Sunday after an unmarked police car carried out a 'short pursuit' of the vehicle, which then struck an Audi. A 17-year-old has been detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Avon and Somerset Police have lodged a mandatory referral with the IOPC.

Two other teenagers from the Nissan and the driver of the Audi were taken to hospital.

All three are believed to be out of danger.

A Major Crime detective inspector is leading the investigation while the IOPC decides whether to take over.
