A Nissan Juke was being followed by an unmarked police car through south Bristol when it collided with an Audi just after 4am on Sunday. The crash occurred on the A37 Wells Road at its junction with Airport Road and Wootton Park. Two other teenagers from the Nissan and the Audi driver were hospitalised. Avon and Somerset Police made a mandatory referral to the police watchdog.

A 17-year-old boy was subsequently arrested at a residential address on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The IOPC says it will decide 'in due course' whether to launch its own investigation.

Police describe the chase as 'short' and are appealing for witnesses with dashcam footage.
