Teenage waitress who was sworn at for dropping an apple crumble wins £13,000 after a hotel chef called her 'it'

Daniesha Charles, who has severe dyslexia, was told 'That's not how you f****** spell porridge' after misspelling a breakfast order at the Royal Thurso Hotel. She was 15, earning £7 an hour, and the only black female among 14 mostly white British staff. The chef and general manager Andy Woodcock 'got in her face' over the crumble. She suffered 'in silence', fearing for her job.

Judge JG d'Inverno ruled she faced age, sex, race and disability discrimination.

The pair swore at South African and Nepalese staff, but never at white male workers.

The hotel now insists a completely new management and kitchen team is in charge.
