Teenager, 19, is arrested after a woman, 36, was killed by a car fleeing a police chase in Leeds

West Yorkshire Police had been attempting to pull over the black Vauxhall Corsa on Harehills Road at 9:50am on Thursday when the vehicle failed to stop; two minutes later it struck the 36-year-old woman on Beckett Street, after which those inside fled. Police found the car abandoned on Nippet Lane and seized it for forensic examination, and the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team has opened an investigation.
The 19-year-old who was arrested is being held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Because officers had been pursuing the vehicle beforehand, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
Police are asking anyone who recorded the Beckett Street collision on dashcam to come forward.
