Kamil Mach, 19, of Holywell Road, Watford, has been ordered to pay £785 for giving a Nazi salute at Jewish worshippers as they left prayers at a Borehamwood synagogue. The gesture came on Croxdale Road on Saturday 9 May as the congregation departed. At St Albans Magistrates' Court on 16 October, Mach was fined £500, with a £200 victim surcharge and £85 costs, for a racially and religiously aggravated public order offence.

Charge was a Section 5 offence covering threatening or abusive behaviour, aggravated by its antisemitic nature.

'Everyone has the right to feel safe regardless of their faith, background or beliefs,' Ryan Davenport said.

Victims can report hate crimes anonymously via Crimestoppers or police-trained third-party centres at religious sites and community centres.
