Ten people, including children, die after fire guts a Bangladesh beach resort where guests hid in washrooms

Flames swept through the three-storey wooden Tuptup Resto and Resort at Inani, in Cox's Bazar district, early on Saturday while guests were still asleep. Volunteer Saiful Islam said some victims sought refuge in the washrooms but died there. Women and children were among the dead, and four more people were hurt.

The resort sits near the Bay of Bengal, a favourite spot for Bangladeshi holidaymakers.

Fire official Syed Mohammad Morshed Hossain said the blaze spread rapidly through the wooden building.

Authorities have launched an investigation into how the fire started.
