Christa Pike, 50, the Tennessee death row inmate who survived two doses of pentobarbital on 30 September, says she has been back in the emergency room since returning to prison and is being required to perform tasks she claims leave her at serious risk of infection and additional injury.

Dr Mark Fowler, the execution's own physician, admits the IV was misplaced, sending lethal drugs into tissue rather than her bloodstream, and says the team should have halted the procedure when Pike reported pain.

Pike alleges she has been ordered to clean a shower overrun with cockroaches despite wounds from the botched execution that have yet to heal.

A judge has directed Tennessee officials to preserve all evidence from the failed execution as the legal consequences of the state's actions continue to mount.
