Tennessee governor signals Christa Pike's death sentence will stand after she survived a botched lethal injection

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee told reporters on Wednesday that convicted killer Christa Pike, 50, will almost certainly face execution again, saying her sentence will stand "unless determined otherwise by the courts." Pike survived a double dose of lethal injection drugs on September 30 and was rushed to hospital, waking up "angry and confused" with no memory of the ordeal.

Pike was discharged from hospital on October 10 and returned to the Nashville facility where she had been held for 30 years.

A former Knoxville police chief described Pike as 'ruthless' and 'almost giddy' when she spoke about the 1995 beating and stabbing of classmate Colleen Slemmer.
