Tesco rolls out AI meal-planning assistant to all 23 million Clubcard customers after staff trial

Tesco has extended its AI-powered meal-planning tool to all 23 million Clubcard holders, having first tested it with around 280,000 staff from April. The tool draws on shoppers' Clubcard purchase history to recommend personalised recipes, identify ingredients they may already have, and reduce food waste.

Chief executive Ken Murphy describes the rollout as part of "strong progress on AI-enabled personalisation" to help customers manage "busy lives".

The feature, built into the Tesco app, lets customers filter meals by price, cuisine type, or ingredients they have on hand at home.

The assistant was built under tight secrecy alongside UK-based AI firm Tomoro AI, which has a working alliance with OpenAI, since last autumn.
