Texas GOP candidate sends cease-and-desist over billboard that mimics his own branding to boast of Trump endorsement
Eric Flores, a Republican former federal prosecutor running in Texas's 34th Congressional District, has demanded the removal of a billboard his opponents used to publicise his Trump endorsement in a design his campaign says closely mimics its official materials. The display, which was still up on October 16, shows Flores alongside President Trump and highlights his support for ICE; it was reportedly funded by Democratic Representative Vicente Gonzalez's campaign and Northern Cameron County Democrats. On October 12, Flores's lawyer Eric Wang sent a cease-and-desist letter to Lamar Advertising, yet the billboard has not come down.
Flores's objection is not to the Trump association itself but to the risk that voters will assume his own campaign produced the ad.
The dispute follows Flores quietly scrubbing a pledge to 'SUPPORT PRESIDENT TRUMP'S AGENDA' from his campaign website after winning the Republican nomination.
Gonzalez, who has held the seat since 2017, appears to be turning Flores's own Trump ties against him in a district where that endorsement is a double-edged sword.
