TGI Fridays worker who rushed to save recovery driver is crushed by runaway Range Rover and LEFT WITH LIFE-CHANGING INJURIES
Kai Dransfield was on his lunch break from a nearby TGI Fridays when he spotted recovery driver Sean Baker, 55, pinned under a rolling two-tonne Range Rover on Exeter Crescent, Bournemouth, and sprinted to his aid — only to be hit by the vehicle himself. Baker had disconnected a safety winch and placed unsecured skates beneath the rear wheels, leaving the Range Rover free to roll down the steep hill. Dransfield was airlifted to Southampton Hospital and, more than two years later, lives with chronic pain and is barely able to walk. Baker received a 14-week suspended sentence at Bournemouth Crown Court after pleading guilty to breaching health and safety law.
Baker had initially held the Range Rover in place with a front winch before detaching it, at which point the vehicle rolled away.
HSE inspector Alexander Ashen called Baker's failings 'substantial' for an experienced driver managing a two-tonne vehicle on a steep hill.
Dransfield recalled locking eyes with Baker, who was 'hanging on for dear life', moments before he moved in to try to pull him free.
