The Bank of England investigates after a Google power failure in London knocked out banking apps for millions

Revolut customers lost card payments, transfers and cash withdrawals after a 'power event' hit Google's europe-west2-b data centre zone. Lloyds, Halifax, HSBC and NatWest users also reported faults, as did Royal Mail and DPD. Remote court hearings stalled and patients saw NHS app glitches. Google says services are restored and promises an analysis after its internal probe.

The public has been told to carry emergency cash after the banking app crash.

More than 1,500 people reported Revolut problems, which peaked around 9am on Tuesday.

An almost identical Amazon Web Services cascade struck a year ago, taking down Roblox and Signal.
