The defendant admits hiding Tunchanok 'Cake' Donhomla's body but still denies murdering the Thai teen

Simon Peter Carman, 45, a truck driver from Perth, pleaded guilty to concealing the corpse of 17-year-old Tunchanok 'Cake' Donhomla at a procedural hearing in Pattaya Provincial Court on Monday, but refused to admit murder. The judge urged Carman to plead guilty to the murder charge so he could argue self-defence, prompting Carman to respond: 'Why should I plead guilty? I would be lying to myself and everyone.' An autopsy found Cake suffered a brain injury and signs consistent with suffocation; her family is also suing Carman for more than $51,000 in a civil case running alongside the criminal trial.
Cake's aunt Miruntree Thanachai told reporters: 'We want to meet the person who killed our family member' — Monday's hearing was the first time the family came face-to-face with Carman.
Carman, arrested at Bangkok airport moments before boarding a flight home, claims Cake attacked him with a knife and that he hid her body because he does not 'trust the police'.
Cake's cousin Khanitta said of the civil lawsuit: 'Nobody wants money from this — they want the person's life back.'
