The funding, expected in this week's budget, would bring the total pot for tackling rough sleeping to nearly £900m by the end of the parliament — doubling the existing commitment. When Andy Burnham entered Downing Street in July, eliminating rough sleeping was the first pledge he made as Prime Minister. He has since promised that every rough sleeper in England will be given either a safe path off the streets or access to broader support.

Burnham is also courting businesses to help deliver the Christmas deadline.

Everyone sleeping rough in London will reportedly be offered help before Christmas.
