The lieutenant governor candidate drops out hours after he was arrested over alleged drunk-driving crash that flipped his car

Running mate Mike Minogue forced Shawn Oliver out, demanding he suspend his campaign immediately and vowing to seek his resignation. Police say Oliver's SUV flipped over on Dartmouth Street in New Bedford at 11:40pm on Saturday, with five cars involved. The 42-year-old city councillor faces charges including operating under the influence. He is due to be arraigned on Monday morning.

Minogue said Oliver was 'lucky to be alive' and that there is 'no excuse' for drink-driving.

Oliver said the election was 'too important to be overshadowed by personal matters'.
