Hundreds of items from Stanley Kubrick's career are to go under the hammer at Bonhams in February, with the axe Jack Nicholson wielded in The Shining carrying a guide price of £30,000 to £50,000. The '2001: A Space Odyssey' star child prop — the film's final, enigmatic image — is expected to fetch up to £800,000. Memorabilia will be shown in Los Angeles ahead of the sale.

The Shining lots also include two sky-blue dresses worn by the film's creepy twin sisters and an original clapperboard.

Kubrick's personal director's chair is valued at up to £12,000, with annotated scripts also among the hundreds of lots.

Bonhams head of popular culture Claire Tole-Moir called the star child 'the final, enigmatic image of one of cinema's most influential science fiction films.'
