Thief leads police on 'Great Windsor Triathlon' until a dog handler chases him down on the bike he stole

Alan Styles, 51, stole food from the Windsor Farm Shop — founded by Prince Philip and owned by the Crown Estate — before launching a multi-stage escape that left Thames Valley Police cycling, running and boarding a passing boat to keep up. Styles crashed his getaway bike into a gate, stripped off his top and dived into the Thames, forcing officers to commandeer a river vessel. He was eventually cornered on the bank and surrendered on his knees when warned that the police dog would 'hurt' him.

The Windsor Farm Shop, which Styles brazenly walked out of with a basket of goods, is owned by the Crown Estate.

Styles later pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from a shop, bicycle theft, assault by beating and outraging public decency.

He was handed an 18-month community order at Reading Magistrates' Court on 19 October.
