Lil Nas X announced the death of his mother, Tameka Hill, in an Instagram tribute posted on Saturday, captioning it 'RIP TO THE BADDEST EVER! LOVE U FOREVER MOMMY.' The rapper, 27, shared throwback photographs, among them a childhood picture and one taken with Hill at a point when his fame had just broken worldwide. No cause of death has been given and Hill's age is unknown.
The news came only days after Lil Nas X posted a video in which he confirmed he had spent several months in rehab before returning home.
Lil Nas X had long kept his mother's struggles with addiction out of the public eye, telling Variety in 2020: 'She's an addict so we don't have the closest relationship — but there's still love.'
He had previously made unsuccessful attempts to place his mother in rehab, and said the loss of his grandmother in 2018 was the first time he had experienced the death of someone close to him.
