Hundreds of NHS GP websites crash after their tech provider collapses WITHOUT WARNING, leaving thousands of patients stranded

Patients at more than 1,000 NHS GP practices in England and Wales have lost access to online booking after Silicon Practice, their website provider, ceased trading.
Patients at more than 1,000 NHS GP practices in England and Wales have lost access to online booking after Silicon Practice, their website provider, ceased trading.

Silicon Practice, which had hosted around 1,000 NHS GP websites since 2005, went into administration carrying net liabilities of £2.67 million, leaving practices with little or no notice before their sites were taken down. Patients at surgeries across London, Gloucestershire, Norfolk, Hertfordshire and Wales are now unable to book appointments or submit consultation forms online. NHS England says fewer than 10% of England's 6,000-plus practices are affected.

Parent company Schappit Ltd, based in Leicestershire, filed its administration notice through law firm Wilkes Partnership in October 2026.

Some practices have cautioned that consultation forms submitted just before the outage may never have been seen by clinical staff.

Patients are urged to call their surgery directly, expect longer waiting times, and dial 999 or NHS 111 if their condition is urgent.
