Two 16-year-old boys in a Renault Megane fled Cleveland Police after midnight, hit street furniture and drove against traffic on the A66 before a West Yorkshire officer arrested them. One admitted dangerous and disqualified driving at Teesside Magistrates' Court and will be sentenced in November. The other was bailed on suspicion of intent to supply class A drugs.

PCs Matthew Blades and Tom Clough died on the A66 in August alongside five young men.

A VW Passat was also driven dangerously against traffic on the A19 near Thornaby.

Chief Superintendent Paul Richardson: 'Staggeringly', drivers went contraflow on Cleveland's busiest roads.
