Three cars in a week drive the wrong way near Teesside's A66 crash scene where two police officers died

Two 16-year-old boys were arrested after their Renault Megane fled police, hit street furniture and drove against traffic on the A66. One admitted dangerous and disqualified driving at Teesside Magistrates' Court and will be sentenced in November. The other was bailed on suspicion of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply. Chief Superintendent Paul Richardson called the contraflow driving 'staggering'.

PC Matthew Blades, 37, and PC Tom Clough, 38, were among seven killed in August.

A VW Passat was also driven against the traffic on the A19 near Thornaby.

Police have made 50 arrests in an organised crime crackdown since the fatal crash.
