Three children are taken to hospital after the roof is ripped off a double-decker school bus in a Newport bridge crash

Three children were taken to hospital after their school bus struck a low railway bridge on Tregare Street at around 7.45am on Tuesday, tearing the roof clean off. The bus had been travelling to Ysgol Gwent Is Coed, a Welsh-speaking high school in the Duffryn area. Gwent Police said none of the three children's injuries are believed to be life-threatening. Further pupils were treated at the scene, which was attended by police, fire and ambulance services.

Photographs show the upper deck stripped of its roof, seats exposed and tangled in overhanging branches.

Transport for Wales warned trains between Newport and Hereford face severe disruption or cancellation.
