Three in five Jewish pupils have experienced or witnessed antisemitism at school, review finds, as Powell vows 'change will come'
Antisemitic incidents in schools jumped 59 per cent to 178 in the first half of 2026, with Sir David Bell's review making 27 recommendations due before Parliament today.
Education Secretary Lucy Powell told the Commons the government accepts all 27 recommendations in Sir David Bell's review. Schools will be urged to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism and mark Holocaust Memorial Day. Around half of pupils who saw abuse doubted any action would follow. Yet the review stopped short of banning pro-Palestine badges worn by teachers and pupils.
NEU boss Daniel Kebede called the IHRA plan the 'wrong approach', citing 'Gaza genocide' discussion.
Shadow education secretary Laura Trott said the measures on unions were 'not strong enough'.
Sir David Bell found children 'physically assaulted on the way to and from school'.
