Three men are each jailed for 158 years for murdering Australian brothers and US friend in Baja California

Three men were each sentenced to 158 years and nine months by an Ensenada judge on Friday: ringleader Jesús Gerardo García, known by the alias "El Kekas", and co-defendants Irineo Francisco and Ángel Jesús. Jake Robinson, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33, and their American friend Carter Rhoad were shot in April 2024 while camping at the remote surf beach of Punta San José; their bodies were later recovered from a well exceeding 15 metres in depth. The brothers' parents, Martin and Debra Robinson, travelled from Australia to be present for the verdict, clasping each other's hands as the guilty findings were read out last week.

The defence team for the three convicted men has signalled its intention to appeal the sentences.

Martin and Debra Robinson have established the Callum and Jake Robinson Foundation in their sons' memory.

The murders triggered a 'major drop' in tourist visits to Baja California, particularly among surfers, according to the president of the regional surfers' association.
