After police executed warrants in Newport in 2020, the gang fled abroad, yet ended up in the dock at Cardiff Crown Court, sentenced on 30 October to a combined 13 years and three months. George Filip, 45, of no fixed address, received the longest term at eight years and two months, while Leonard Banica, 41, of Romania, got three years and nine months and Alexandru Moco, 27, of Birmingham, 15 months.

Brothels in Newport, Birmingham and Scotland were run by the ring from 2015 onwards.

Detective Superintendent Robin Fuller of Gwent Police said the gang pleaded guilty 'with the strength of evidence' against them.

International police cooperation brought the fugitive gang members back from abroad to face justice in Wales.
