Gardaí believe a local drugs gang ordered the petrol bombing to extort €20,000 from Philip English over a drugs debt incurred by someone else. Philip, his wife Kim, and their two sons — Callum, aged 12, and Jayden, aged nine — died in the attack on their Birchwood estate home on 13 October. A man in his 50s and two women in their 30s have now been detained, bringing the total number of arrests to five. All are held under powers allowing detention without charge for up to seven days.

Two surviving children, a girl of 14 and a boy of six, remain critical in Crumlin.

Jessica Dalton, 31, and Cian Stacey, 21, are remanded in custody until 17 November.

Outside Waterford court, an angry crowd directed shouts at the prison van transporting Dalton.
