Customers have threatened to boycott Toby Carvery after a video went viral showing a chef at the chain's Poole, Dorset branch placing a diner's plate onto weighing scales before carving the meat. Content creator Tee Gee posted the footage on Facebook, where the chef confirmed the scales had been in use for around three weeks and had been introduced at other branches too. Toby Carvery has pushed back, insisting the scales are used only to train new staff or reassure existing chefs their portions are accurate.
The chef told Tee Gee that a king-size plate carries 216g of meat and a standard plate 160g.
Hundreds of commenters called the apparent change 'ridiculous' and 'really, really bad', with some vowing never to return.
Tee Gee's caption captured the mood bluntly: 'Tiny Yorkshire puddings and they're weighing the meat now — they'll be counting the peas next.'
