ACLU and Common Cause move to block DOJ election lawsuit as Murkowski says it 'should never have filed'
Civil liberties groups have filed a motion to intervene against the Justice Department's lawsuit targeting Alaska's Senate race, as Attorney General defenders insist the case does not seek to stop certification of the election. The suit targets Dan J. Sullivan Jr, a 69-year-old retired teacher whose name nearly matches Senator Dan S. Sullivan's, and claims his candidacy aims to mislead voters and benefit Democrat Mary Peltola. Murkowski says the ballot already distinguishes the two men clearly.
Todd Blanche said the DOJ lawsuit is not trying to 'stop the certification of Alaska's election', amid continued pushback from Murkowski.
Peltola called the lawsuit 'a very desperate attempt to cling to power'.
Stephen Miller's 'egregious attacks' post drew critics noting the ballot marks the senator 'incumbent'.
