Toledo residents are told they cannot tell the toxic plume from FOG as a chemical leak forces Ohio evacuations

MC Tank Transport has identified the chemical as glycidyl methacrylate, used in plastics, paints and coatings. Residents within a mile of 1050 Progress Avenue were ordered to evacuate at 10.48pm on Tuesday. Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz described it as 'a serious event' with 'serious health concerns'. Fire crews say the release is still ongoing.

Officials warned that the leaking tank could become explosive within a 12-hour window from the start of the incident.

Exposure can cause burning eyes and skin, headaches, dizziness, nausea and vomiting.

Evacuees are sheltering at an elementary school and a Meijer car park.
