Tom Cruise says he is unconcerned by Digger's bomb as film tracks toward a $250m loss

Tom Cruise's darkly comic eco-parable Digger opened to only $8 million at the box office against a reported budget exceeding $160 million, with analysts now projecting losses of as much as $250 million by the close of its theatrical run. The 64-year-old told a podcast he cares about a film's "staying power" rather than opening-weekend figures. Anne Hathaway and other cast members have mounted a high-profile social media campaign urging audiences to buy tickets.
Some projections have Digger's total box office receipts falling as low as $40 million — a figure that would rank it among the worst commercial failures in cinema history.
Hathaway called it "smart and trippy and aggressive and funny and ambitious" on Letterboxd, giving it 10 out of 10.
