Tories climb to within two points of Labour in their best poll since election as Burnham gets no Budget bounce

Prime Minister Andy Burnham's first Budget last Wednesday delivered zero boost to Labour, with the party dropping one point to 26 per cent in YouGov's first voting-intentions poll since the fiscal statement. Kemi Badenoch's Conservatives climbed two points to 24 per cent — their highest since the 2024 general election — closing to within two points of Labour.
Reform UK slipped to 21 per cent, its lowest YouGov score since the 2024 election, leaving Farage's party in third place for a third straight week.
The Tories are winning back young voters, with 17 per cent of 18-to-24-year-olds now backing them — more than the Lib Dems and Reform combined.
Chancellor John Healey, asked if he shares Burnham's ambition to rejoin the EU, replied: 'I'm older than Andy Burnham — I don't expect to see that.'
