Los Angeles has been placed under a Flood Watch, with forecasters predicting as much as three inches of rain alongside small hail and coastal waterspouts. There is also a "small chance" of a brief tornado making landfall. Adam Douty, a senior meteorologist at AccuWeather, said the heaviest rain over Southern California is expected from Wednesday evening through early Thursday. The National Weather Service warned that storms near Flagstaff could tear off roofs and destroy mobile homes.
Remnants of Hurricane Trudy off Mexico are feeding the system extra tropical moisture.
Flood Watches have also been issued across New Mexico, Utah and southwestern Colorado.
